There is actually a cool bit if history behind the High Sheriff. According to the Suffolk County Council website it is at 'least 1000' years old, the office of the High Sheriff. A high Sherieff has responsibilities of law...etc. If you want to read more on the job, then click on this link/copy and paste it.

Today, I had the chance to go and collect a grant for a charity called 4yp. Well, Suffolks health project for young people (4yp). 4yp has done a lot for me and I will always talk the best about them because, I have never had a bad experience there. The youth workers that work in the project are friendly and keep information you talk about confidential, unless the information has information regarding harm towards yourself. They do however, always tell you what they will do and ask for your opinion. At 4yp there is volunteering opportunities, which I am also a part of and a chance to be able to make friends or go and have counselling. It is aimed at young people 12 to 25 years old. As well as volunteering and counselling, there is also group activities on certain days. Why am I explaining all this? This charity means a hell of a lot to me . I won't go into detail about my personal life just yet, but I have had a bloody awful time. I had no friends and since joining 4yp a year ago, I have made friends I will be keeping for life. My confidence has greatly improved...blah blah. You get the picture.
4yp had been told they had been given a grant by the High Sheriff of Suffolk. This is great news because it means they can now use that money to fix problems and buy more equipment for young people. Me and my good friend (more like best friend) were told we could go up and collect this award. I jumped straight at the chance- I wanted to be able to do something for them. So there we are waiting to go up and get the award when I realise one of the presenters of the ceremony, is actually one of my mum's friends.
Walking up the stage and then turning to look at the crowd was great if the camera man wasn't blinding me so badly! The flash meant I had no idea how I was standing or if I was even facing the crowd. Therefore, it meant that we had to have another photo taken as me and my best friend, were not standing as close as we should have been to the High Sheriff. It was a good laugh after however.
The rest of the ceremony was very nice. They gave awards out to other volunteers congratulating them on their hard work and it made me think.
People actually do recognise the hard work that volunteers put in. However, we never hear about volunteers in the media. We only ever hear about the people who started the business and not the people are who trying to keep a business running and will use their free time to help others. It made realise, that this world inst always like that and people do see other peoples hard work. I wasn't upset that 4yp did not get an award because they did in a way. People were recognising 4yp for their hard work and willing to give them a ton of money to help them.
So to me the evening was a complete success and all the other charities were awarded. I was very happy and it actually restored my faith in humanity a lot more. I hope it has restored yours as well.
I would like to thank 4yp for inviting me to go to this event and for all the hard work they have put in for the young people in Suffolk and for their patience with me and their willingness to be their for me. It means a ton.
Thank you.
